The Carolina Panthers were on the clock during the fourth round of Saturdayâs NFL draft when coach Matt Rhule received a text.
It was his wife, Julie, and she had a succinct message: Draft Chuba Hubbard.
Peace at the dinner table was maintained when Rhule and the Panthers followed the instructions and tabbed the Oklahoma State running back with the 126th overall selection.
Rhule broke the news to Hubbard when they chatted on the phone shortly after the pick was announced in Cleveland, where all seven rounds of the draft was held over three days starting with the first round on Thursday night.

The NFL Draft is over and it is time to evaluate how each team did with their allotted draft picks. While some teams like the Jets and Detroit Lions did well, others made some puzzling moves that could impact their franchises for years to come.
Here are the draft grades for every NFL team:
Zaven Collins has a chance to be an impact linebacker. Adding wide receiver Rondale Moore gives them another speed option to go along with DeAndre Hopkins will give Kyler Murray another downfield target. and Tay Gowan fell to the sixth round
Homestead s Skowronek drafted in seventh round

Former Homestead star Ben Skowronek became the latest Fort Wayne native to reach the NFL this afternoon, getting selected in the seventh round of the draft by the Los Angeles Rams with the 249th overall pick.
With Skowronek s selection, the Summit City has had a draft pick in three of the last four drafts as the wide receiver out of Notre Dame joined Carroll s Drue Tranquill (2020 fourth round to the Chargers) and Snider s Jessie Bates III (2018 third round to the Bengals). Bishop Luers wide receiver Austin Mack made the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and Bluffton product D Wayne Eskridge was also picked in the second round of this year s draft by the Seahawks.
