Two Cabarrus County Schools students â Hickory Ridgeâs Bryson Battle and Northwest Cabarrusâs Cameron Meyer â are finalists this year for Best Actor in the annual Blumey Awards.
The Blumey Awards are put on every year by Blumenthal Performing Arts and aim to continue the celebration of high school musical theater. Battle and Meyer will compete with four other actors for the Best Actor Award in a 30-minute program airing on PBS Charlotte on May 25 at 8 p.m. The winner of that event will move on to the National High School Musical Theater Awards on July 15.
Ian Sullivan and Andrea Rassler have worked with their students respectively since their freshmen years and seeing their hard work culminate in Blumey Award nominations has been special for them.

BELLEVILLE A man has filed a suit against a driver that struck him with a vehicle as he was attempting to cross the street at an intersection in Belleville.
Ian Sullivan filed a complaint April 5 in the Circuit Court for St. Clair County against Donald Funke alleging negligence.
Sullivan claims in his suit that he was crossing the street near the intersection of South 20th Street in Belleville on May 2, 2019, when Funke struck him with his vehicle.
He alleges that as a result of the accident, he suffered injuries to his neck, back, wrist, leg and knee, emotional upset as well as incurred medical treatment expenses. Sullivan claims Funke was negligent in failing to yield the right-of-way and for driving at an excessive speed. In addition, Sullivan claims Funke failed to keep a careful lookout while operating his vehicle and did not stop or slow down after he knew there was a reasonable likelihood of a collision.
