Martin McDonagh committed the attempted burglary because he hoped to be arrested, as his mental health and drinking had spiralled out of control during lockdown. Oxford Crown Court heard the 46-year-old was caught on CCTV breaking into the garden of a house in Chalfont Road, Oxford, on June 7. He broke the lock to a shed then tried to use a tool from the outhouse to lever open ground floor windows. He fled empty handed when the burglar alarm began to sound.

Oxford Magistrates Court OXFORD MAGISTRATES ANTHONY MARK WETHERALL, 55, of Hutchcomb Road, Oxford, was convicted of speeding by driving 35mph in a 30mph zone on Woodstock Road, Oxford, on June 22. He was fined £100 and must pay a victim surcharge of £34 and court costs of £90 and his driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points. Oliver TRODD, 27, of Stoneleigh Drive, Carterton, was convicted of speeding by driving at a speed in excess of the maximum limit for a vehicle of that class on July 8 last year in Gloucestershire. He was fined £68 and must pay a victim surcharge of £32 and his driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points.
