CHICAGO, IL San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller reunited with an old friend in another blockbuster move Tuesday night.
The aggressive Padres got Yu Darvish in a trade with the Chicago Cubs, adding another ace to their rotation after announcing a deal for Blake Snell earlier in the day. During his time in Texas front office, Preller scouted Darvish before the Rangers acquired the Japanese right-hander in 2012. His last season and a half has been as productive as anybody in the game. He s a force, Preller said Tuesday night. So I think getting back on the phone with him, catching up for a few minutes, really looking forward to being around him every single day again.

The San Diego Padres completed another blockbuster trade Tuesday, acquiring ace right-hander Yu Darvish, catcher Victor Caratini, and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a five-player package that includes right-hander Zach Davies and four prospects, the team announced.
Welcome to San Diego, @faridyu!
The four prospects heading to Chicago are shortstops Reginald Preciado and Yeison Santana, and outfielders Owen Caissie and Ismael Mena.
Chicago is sending $3 million to the Padres as part of the trade, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago. That amount covers a small part of the $59 million remaining on Darvish s contract.

The Cubs and Padres officially announced the seven-player deal featuring Yu Darvish by press releases late Tuesday.
As you surely know, Darvish and Victor Caratini are heading to San Diego. In exchange, the Cubs receive righthander Zach Davies and four prospects: infielders Reginald Preciado and Yeison Santana and outfielders Owen Caissie and Ismael Mena.
None of the prospects is likely to hit the big leagues until at least 2023, making this trade largely a salary dump.
Here’s a bit more information on that:
