The Dallas Wings and their fans should be soaring! With the first two picks in the 2021 draft, the Wings selected two potentially-generational bigs in Charli Collier and Awak Kuier.
Compared to the last big who went No. 1 in the draft A’ja Wilson (2018) Collier is not a surefire superstar. She notably struggled against higher-level competition in college. Yet, the potential is certainly there. Such potential might be there even more for Kuier, a 19-year-old who plays with enviable fluidity and poise. Sacrificing Katie Lou Samuelson in order to be able to acquire both Collier and Kueir, rather than having to settle for one of the two, was an absolute win.

Two former Razorback guards were taken in the first 15 picks of Thursday nightâs 2021 WNBA Draft, as Chelsea Dungee was taken with the fifth pick by the Dallas Wings, while Destiny Slocum was taken 14th by the Las Vegas Aces. It was the first time in program history two Arkansas Womenâs Basketball players were taken in the same draft, and the first draft since 2012 in which a former Hog was selected.
With the third of their first-round picks, the Wings took Dungee, who became the highest drafted Razorback since 2004, when Shameka Christon was taken fifth overall by the New York Liberty. Dungee will join former Texas center Charli Collier, Finnish forward Awak Kuier and former Louisville guard Dana Evans to form a highly intriguing draft class for the Wings. NEW YORK, April 15, 2021 – Two-time All-American Charli Collier of Texas tonight was selected by the Dallas Wings with the first overall pick of WNBA Draft 2021 presented by State Farm®, which was held virtually for a second year in a row in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award as the nation’s top center, Collier is the first No. 1 overall selection in the WNBA Draft from the University of Texas. In her final season for the Longhorns, she averaged 19.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
