Serena Sanborn, Waterville Creates’ education and outreach coordinator, was honored May 1 with the Art Educator of the Year Award by the Maine Art Education Association.

Sanborn received the Art Educator of the Year Award in the Supervisory category. A formal, statewide recognition ceremony took place virtually. The association is a statewide professional organization whose members are committed to excellence in visual arts education.
Waterville Creates develops and delivers a wide array of arts education and outreach programs that serve Waterville area residents and their families. It works with a host of organizational partners to maximize its reach and ensure access for a broad array of community members.
Sizer School student Jaiden Killion of Templeton chosen for MAEA Youth Art Month exhibition

FITCHBURG Six Sizer School students, including a Templeton resident, were recently chosen to be featured in the Massachusetts Art Education Association’s (MAEA) annual Youth Art Month exhibition.
Youth Art Month (YAM) is celebrated nationally every March to highlight the importance of visual art education “in the total education curriculum that develops citizens of a global society,” according to their website. Annually, MAEA sponsors a statewide pre-K-12 YAM exhibit of student artworks submitted by art educators in public, private and independent schools from across the state. The exhibition features outstanding artwork created by students from throughout Massachusetts.

Five students from the Washington Community School District were chosen by Art Educators of Iowa for their Youth Art Month showcase.
AEI members or teachers may enter up to 10 works of art for the showcase, and three second grade students from Stewart Elementary, one fifth grade student from Lincoln Elementary, and one seventh grade student from Washington Middle School were chosen. The students’ work will be exhibited through an online platform and each will receive a certificate of achievement. You can find photos and more information on the students selected here.
