THE STORY What started as a personal challenge, has now become a venture of over 5 years in development. A history full of innovation, failures, rejections & achievements. 2016 It was in 2016 when the trike design has developed its first shapes and got a wider recognition. Artūras Mikalauskas – the founder – found a design student –  Lukas Avėnas – who was crazy enough to jump on such a venture. With the mentorship & ideology suggestions from Artūras, they have successfully created the  AKO Trike concept design. Later that year, Lukas won the Young Designers Award for his design. Since then, Artūras initiated the build of a first concept-proof prototype.

The Bug Building competition will keep children busy during lockdown. ARE your children bored during lockdown? An exciting new competition could be just the thing to keep them entertained, get their creative juices flowing, and educate them about nature at the same time. A competition, in collaboration with architects Mattinson Associates Ltd and The Young Designers Award, is being held for those 16 years old and under to win some great prizes. With new government restrictions in place, times are challenging, and organisers are hoping this competition will help get children outside and enjoying nature and architecture during the winter months.

Architect business Mattinson Assocociates based in Whitwell has previously held the Young Designers Award competition, which aims to educate children about architecture. But the Island-based firm says ‘due to a lack of funding’ it was unable to take place in 2020. So, this year, children aged 16 or under are being asked to design a bug building – an insect hotel in the shape of your favourite building.
