Pink Triangle Press announces Tre'vell Anderson as the first ever recipient of the Ken Popert Media Fellowship

The Root s 100 most influential African Americans of 2020, Anderson is a co-host of the Fanti podcast, a contributor to the Los Angeles Times and regional director of the National Association of Black Journalists. Anderson, as editor-at-large for Xtra, will be fostering journalism by and for underrepresented LGBTQ2S+ communities, with a particular focus on emerging Black queer and trans writers. The Ken Popert Media Fellowship was established in 2021 by Pink Triangle Press in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The fellowship honours the legacy of former executive director Ken Popert, who retired in 2017. The fellowship provides resources and support for journalists to create and publish unique and powerful LGBTQ2S+ stories.

We in California, and especially in San Francisco, confronted the challenge of covering our faces to help prevent the spread of the virus early on and our personal collection of masks tells the story of our own journey. In March of 2020, we cooperated with Mayor London Breed’s precautions first by utilizing scarves, which were still in use as cool weather persisted. How hard was it to wrap a piece of fabric a bit higher on the face, effectively blocking any exchange of virus-carrying fluids? We even rediscovered some neglected luxurious pashminas in the back of the closet and met COVID with style and comfort. As this unexpected and undefined flu quickly escalated to an epidemic and then a pandemic, we realized that some research and investment in face masks was necessary.

SF Pride Plans for 2021 Revealed by Executive Director Fred Lopez Nearly a year ago today, San Francisco Mayor London Breed along with Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, San Francisco Pride, the Office of Transgender Initiatives, and other city officials kicked off what they anticipated would be a year of major festivities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of SF Pride. Little did they know that just a month later the city would be sheltering-in-place due to a deadly new pandemic. Here is what they had originally envisioned: “The 50th anniversary Celebration and Parade, with the theme ‘Generations of Hope,’ will fill the streets of downtown San Francisco from the Embarcadero to City Hall on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28, 2020.”
