All along the east coast, floodgates have been closed in preparation for the storm surge. Gale force winds are combining with high tides to threaten coastal defences. In jaywick, in essex, there is a severe Flood Warning, meaning a risk to life. The Emergency Services have arrived in force. The residents are being urged to leave.
