The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre and Bengal government to respond to a plea seeking directions to prevent the alleged exodus due to state-sponsored violence after the Assembly polls, constituting an SIT to probe the issue and take action against culprits.
A vacation bench of Justices Vineet Saran and B R Gavai directed that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission of Women (NCW) be made parties in the matter after the petitioners said that they have taken note of the situation of people in Bengal.
The top court said the replies of the Centre and West Bengal be filed in the matter and listed the plea for further hearing in the week starting June 7.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the West Bengal Government and state police on a petition by Delhi-based social worker Arun Mukherjee and 4 others, alleging mass exodus of lakhs of people, including women and children, as a result of the post-poll violence across the state.
A vacation Bench of Justices Vineet Saran and Bhushan Gavai agreed to hear the matter in the week beginning June 7. It wanted response by that date from the state government and police on the allegation of inaction by the state authorities in curbing the violence.

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear next week a plea seeking directions to the Centre and the West Bengal government to prevent alleged exodus of people due to state-sponsored violence and constituting of a SIT to fairly investigate and take appropriate action against culprits.
A vacation bench of Justices Vineet Saran and BR Gavai was told by senior advocate Pinky Anand that more than one lakh people have been displaced due to the poll-related violence in West Bengal. She told the bench that this matter required urgent listing as people are forced to leave their homes and stay in shelter homes and camps.
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear next week a PIL filed by social workers and advocates, having roots in West Bengal, seeking relief and rehabilitation of lakhs of persons displaced from the state because of post-poll violence allegedly perpetrated by victorious TMC activists.
Senior advocate Pinky Anand sought urgent hearing on the PIL from a vacation bench of Justices Vineet Saran and B R Gavai tand said hat the situation was precarious in the state and the violence has driven out lakhs of people outside the state who are living in penury during the pernicious time of Covid pandemic. The bench directed listing of the PIL next week for hearing.

New Delhi, May 21 : The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to examine a plea seeking directions to the Centre and the West Bengal government to prevent alleged exodus of people due to state-sponsored violence after the Assembly election.
Senior advocate Pinky Anand submitted before a bench comprising Justices Vineet Saran and B.R. Gavai that more than one lakh has been displaced in the state due violence connected with the Assembly election in West Bengal.
