COVID Vaccinations and Mandatory Pay

Wednesday, April 28, 2021 On April 21, 2021, Chicago became the latest locale to require employers that mandate COVID-19 vaccinations to compensate certain employees for time spent getting vaccinated. While the new ordinance does not go as far as legislation in other parts of the country, it does create new obligations for employers, whether vaccinations are mandated or merely encouraged. Mandated Vaccines Under the new ordinance, employers that require their Chicago employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccine must compensate those employees at their regular rates of pay, up to four hours per dose,  if the vaccination takes place during an employee s regular working hours. Employers also are prohibited from requiring employees to receive vaccinations outside working hours, or requiring employees to use any available paid sick leave or vacation time toward those hours.

Chicago City Council Passes Vaccination Time Off Ordinance - Coronavirus (COVID-19)

On April 21, 2021, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance, effective immediately, prohibiting adverse action against all Chicago workers including independent contractors who take time off from work to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The ordinance also prohibits employers from requiring that a worker get a COVID-19 vaccine outside of work hours. Vaccination time off need not necessarily be paid. (Shutterstock) NEW LENOX, IL A New Lenox water tower will be getting a new coat of paint, after the village board awarded a bid to Era Valdivia Contractors, Inc., for the project at its April 12 meeting. Public Works Director Brian Williams said the village received four bids for the project, ranging from $397,000 to $504,000. Era Valdivia Contractors, Inc., was the third-lowest bidder at $466,800. Subscribe Williams said the lowest bidder was from out-of-state, and is a non-union contractor who has open investigations with the Illinois Department of Labor. The second-lowest bidder was in-state and a union contractor, but the company stated in the bid that they couldn t do the project until 2022, Williams said.
