The Illawarra Hawks have the chance to secure their spot in the NBL grand final when they host the Perth Wildcats at WIN Entertainment Centre on Saturday.
Brian Goorjian is the Wayne Bennett of basketball coaching with six NBL championships to his name, but his effort to steer the cash-strapped Illawarra Hawks from last place to a potential grand final series is extra special.

Minor premiers Melbourne United will âcomfortablyâ win this yearâs NBL championship, according to three-time NBL champion and two-time grand final MVP Chris Anstey.
Anstey knows plenty about what success looks like in the postseason, and thatâs why he canât see anyone toppling Unitedâs quality and star power in the race for the trophy.
âUnited will be too good with their depth of talent,â Anstey said.
âI mean, they are bringing (guard) Scotty Hopson off the bench, who is a top two or three player in any of the teams remaining, and United have the luxury of bringing him off the bench.
