COVID-19 claims two more lives, 178 new cases

July 25, 2021 Rawalpindi : COVID-19 has claimed another two lives from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking the death toll from the region to 1,804 while 178 new patients have been diagnosed with the infection taking the tally from the twin cities to 111,417. According to In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid, the positivity rate of COVID-19 from Rawalpindi has turned out to be 7.17 per cent in the last 24 hours as out of 823 samples tested, 59 have been confirmed positive for the disease. He added that to date, a total of 104,3329 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the district including 100,9148 citizens and 34,181 healthcare workers.

In the last five days, as many as 1,144 new cases have been reported from the region at an average of 229 patients per day. It is important that the average number of patients reported per day from the region dropped down to below 70 in June. Despite the fact that the situation is becoming alarming, one can witness the violation of almost all SOPs in all cattle markets set up in town. Apart from cattle markets set up by the government authorities, there have been hundreds of relatively smaller set ups, ‘dairas’ operating in the district selling sacrificial animals and no one is following SOPs

July 16, 2021 Rawalpindi : As many as 204 new patients were tested positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 109537 while one patient died of the illness from the federal capital taking the death toll from the twin cities to 1790. It is, however, more alarming that the positivity rate of COVID-19 from the Rawalpindi district has been recorded as 5.56 per cent in the last 24 hours that had dropped down to around one per cent some two weeks back. Out of a total of 1,186 samples tested for COVID-19 in the district in the last 24 hours, 66 were reported positive, said In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid.

28 delta variant cases detected in Rawalpindi July 10, 2021 Rawalpindi : As many as 28 persons have been diagnosed with delta variant (B.1.617.2) of COVID-19 from Rawalpindi district in at least 10 localities and the district health authorities have already recommended the concerned authorities to keep the infected persons under strict quarantine to check further spread of the variant, first detected in India earlier this year that is more transmissible than contemporary lineages of SARS-COV-2 (in general COVID-19) variants. It is important that the WHO has already categorized delta variant as a variant of concern after observing its significantly increased transmissibility and a growing number of countries reporting outbreaks associated with this variant.
