It has been uncommonly warm in northern Michigan this winter. Always strange when the biggest snows come in October! A snowstorm, or even a big snow shower, will jolt life back into winter in the Upper Peninsula. The lack of true winter has made for many strange sights across the U.P. the past two and a half months, with many tree buds already showing some green, but especially for bird life reluctant to leave the mild climate that settled into the area this fall and early winter.

Maine s own Patrick Dempsey is the star of a new advertising campaign for Poland Spring water. It all kicks off on Monday, January 25th, and will be promoted across several media platforms.
There are two commercials, one is 15 seconds and the other is 30 seconds. It was filmed at various locations around the state, including Mount Kineo and Lily Bay State Park on Moosehead Lake, Grand Falls on the Dead River in West Forks and White Cedar Spring.
Dempsey celebrated his 55th birthday this week. Patrick Dempsey was born in Lewiston, and grew up in the nearby towns of Turner and Buckfield. He of course is best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek McDreamy Shepherd in Grey s Anatomy, and he has also been in quite a few hit films over the years, including Outbreak , Scream 3 , Sweet Home Alabama , Made of Honor , Valentine s Day , Transformers: Dark of the Moon , and Bridget Jones s

MARQUETTE An area white-tailed deer most likely lived to see the new year.
Michigan Department of Natural Resources personnel on Dec. 28 rescued a deer from the Dead River Basin in Marquette, said Sgt. Mark Leadman, a supervisor based at the DNR’s Marquette Customer Service Center. The rescue involved two other DNR employees.

“We know that Maine teachers are doing amazing work educating our students, especially through the impossible challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Commissioner Pender Makin. “By putting a name forward as a nomination in the Teacher of the Year Program you will not only give them the recognition they deserve, but you will also give them the chance to take a more active leadership role in education in our State.”
