IDEA Public Schools has parted ways with CEO JoAnn Gama and Chief Operating Officer Irma Munoz following a forensic audit that found the leaders were misusing funds, according to a letter released Tuesday by acting CEO Al Lopez.

IDEA CEO and co-founder JoAnn Gama and Chief Operating Officer Irma Munoz have been ousted after an internal investigation revealed financial mishandling.
In early 2020, the national board of directors directed IDEA s outside legal counsel to retain special counsel to conduct an investigation into the financial transactions and activities of senior executives at IDEA over the last several years, according to an IDEA Public Schools news release Tuesday.
This review brought to light substantial evidence that prior to board policy reforms last year, several members of senior leadership directed the use of IDEA financial and staff resources for their personal benefit on multiple occasions.

Texas’ largest charter school network ousted two of its top leaders and is working with authorities after a forensic review revealed some administrators used school funds for personal use.
The development comes roughly one year after the IDEA Public Schools charter network awarded a $900,000 buyout to its departing chief executive officer and co-founder Tom Torkelson.
