VANCOUVER At the end of a chaotic season that was unimaginable when it began, the Vancouver Canucks did something sensible Thursday as they moved towards a new contract for head coach Travis Green.
Naturally, the path to this point of logic was crazy.
Working all season without a contract extension, Green actually made it to unofficial free agency when reports broke that the coach who has overseen the Canucks’ transformation was on the verge of finally getting a raise and new deal from the National Hockey League team.

The Vancouver Canucks are healing, but they’re not yet ready to play.
The NHL has officially postponed the Canucks’ return to play, which was scheduled for Friday against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena. Multiple reports, including those below by John Shannon and Irfaan Gaffar, indicate that Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs will also be postponed.

The NHL said that they expect a revised schedule to be released tomorrow, which will impact multiple North Division teams. Perhaps Saturday’s game will be pushed by one day, setting up back-to-back games against the Leafs at Rogers Arena on Sunday and Monday.

COVID-19 has rocked the Vancouver Canucks likely in a way that we haven’t seen with any other major pro sports franchise, at least in North America.
There are 14 Canucks players currently on the NHL’s COVID list, and that number is expected to rise when the league updates it this afternoon. While a player can end up in COVID protocol for multiple reasons, various reports (including this one from Patrick Johnston of Postmedia) indicate that the vast majority of the players identified have indeed tested positive.
That list doesn’t include players on the taxi squad, of which reports indicate it has spread there too. It also doesn’t include coaches, but the outbreak hasn’t spared them either.
