Jan Willem (Johan) van der Veen, PhD Dr Jan Willem van der Veen is a staff scientist in the Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Core, National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He received his PhD in Applied Physics in 1992 at the University of Technology in Delft (TUD), The Netherlands. His PhD thesis was on Sodium Spectroscopy (23Na) in vivo. After his PhD thesis he was a PostDoc for three years at the University of Alabama in the Cardiology Department, with his main interest in Phosphorous (31P) spectroscopy in heart transplant patients and functional imaging. This led to first a PostDoc and then a Staff Scientist position at the NIH. At the NIH he continued his spectroscopy work in proton (1H) spectroscopic imaging of cancer, MS, and mental disorder patients.

Echocardiography sections of GMCH Jammu, SSH virtually closed as Echo machines out of order Govind Sharma JAMMU, Apr 14: The Echocardiography sections of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu as well as Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) Jammu have virtually been closed as the Echo machines have been lying dysfunctional in both the hospitals for last more than one month. Official sources told Excelsior that both the Echo machines, one in GMCH Jammu and other in SSH Jammu went out of order over a month back and since then both the machines are lying unused and authorities concerned failed to get them repaired, leaving the patients to suffer or move to private diagnostic centres.
