An Iranian PhD student at Western University is the first recipient of the Flight 752 Memorial Graduate Scholarship.
Payam Momeni says he feels he is “carrying the torch” for the four Western students who lost their lives aboard Flight PS752 one year ago.
“We only knew these students for a few months or a few years, but their main goal was to live in peace and serve this country as their new home â which provided them great opportunities to pursue their dreams â as well as their home country Iran. I think the best thing I can do will be to live that goal.” Momeni said in a statement.

The sordid story of an Iranian PhD student and an ill-fated trip to Signal Hill has come to an end, for now, with a judge imposing a four-year prison sentence for attempted murder.
The man cannot be named, due to a publication ban issued on the first day of his trial.
He was convicted as charged for tackling his close friend atop a steep cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on April 7, 2017. The two men fell only a few feet, and got tangled in vegetation sparing them both from what the judge ruled was a murder-suicide plot.
