The Soldiers are assigned to the 345th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 90th Troop Command, and are leaving for a yearlong mobilization to Fort Bliss, Texas to provide COVID-19 mitigation support for Army units deploying to and returning from overseas.
Lt. Col. Darrin Fox, of Moore, Oklahoma, is serving as the Battalion’s commander for this mission and said his unit will be supporting Soldiers who have tested positive for COVID. “This mission deals with Soldiers mobilizing and demobilizing at Fort Bliss,” Fox said. “Compared to a combat mission – we are still performing our duties when it comes to logistics.

More than 100 Vermont National Guard soldiers will deploy this week.
On Wednesday, March 10, the soldiers, primarily from the 572nd Brigade Engineer Battalion and the 1st Squadron, 172nd Infantry (Mountain) will depart for multiple mission locations.
All of the destinations will be within the U.S. Africa command. In July 2020, the Guard made deployment announcements and said this group would have an expected one year deployment as part of Operation Spartan Shield.
This is one of several deployments planned in 2021. These soldiers have been preparing for over a year as part of about 950 Vermont Army National Guard Soldiers deploying across U.S. European, U.S. African and U.S. Central Commands throughout the first half of 2021, a news release from the Guard reads.

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) More than 100 Vermont National Guard soldiers will be deploying to multiple locations on Wednesday.
The soldiers are mostly from the 572nd Brigade Engineer Battalion and the 1st Squadron, 172nd Cavalry (Mountain), the Guard said.
They will be going to multiple locations across the U.S. Africa command, the Guard said, but did not specify where.
The deployment is anticipated to last about a year, said Maj. Scott Detweiler, the acting state public affairs officer for the Vermont National Guard.
“These soldiers have been preparing for over a year as part of about 950 Vermont Army National Guard Soldiers deploying across U.S. European, U.S. African and U.S. Central Commands throughout the first half of 2021,” the Guard said in a news release.
