قرر نحو نصف المحافظين (باستثناء كردستان) دخول الانتخابات البرلمانية، المفترض اجراؤها في تشرين الاول المقبل. اثنان من المحافظين الذين ينوون الترشح مجددا، لم يصلا الى البرلمان رغم فوزهما في اقتراع 2018، وقررا البقاء في مناصبهما السابقة.
والقسم الآخر من المحافظين المرشحين كانوا حتى وقت قريب مطلوبين للقضاء، وآخرين يتحملون مسؤولية عدم محاسبة قتلة المتظاهرين. ويرجح سبب امتناع 8 من المحافظين من دخول الانتخابات الى احتجاجات تشرين، التي فضحت الفساد وسوء الخدمات- بحسب ناشطين.
ويبلغ عدد المرشحين الذين ينوون خوض الانتخابات، أكثر من 3500
