Dozens of empty tents, piles of old clothes, rusty metal, syringes and cigarette butts lined the sidewalk.   City employees had notified the people living there that the area will be closed for cleaning, according to city spokesman Jon Humbert. Most people had already left the area but a few were still at the camp, packing whatever belongings they could.  By 8:30 a.m., city employees began loading items into trash bags and carting away tents. A front-end loader demolished one of the sturdier structures, tearing down wooden walls and ripping the fabric roof to pieces.
