Published: 08:00, 01 February 2021 A kitchen, which is the hub for providing meals to the community, has received a new look to ensure it continues to be fit for purpose. The main kitchen at the Stamford Methodist Church in Barn Hill is used four days a week by Second Helpings as well as by a number of community groups and the church congregation. Established in 2015 with the aim of feeding bellies not bins , Second Helpings prevents surplus food going to landfill by re-distributing it within the community. Delaware County Non-Profits and Area Schools Awarded McGee Barr Grants – Mix 94 7 KMCH

The Greater Delaware County Community Foundation has announced this year’s round of McGee Barr Grants. The grants are funded by the interest and earnings on the money left to the foundation by Garrett McGee, who specified in his will that the funds should be used to help the poor of Delaware County. This year’s grant recipients are Second Helpings, the Delaware County Food Bank, Helping Services, the Riverview Center, Lutheran Services, West Delaware’s Back to School Fair, Junior Achievement, First Presbyterian Church’s Birthday Bag Program and the Methodist Church’s Clothing Closet. The grants totaled over $25,000.

Staff at Hinchingbrooke Hospital provide food for families

Published: 7:00 AM January 1, 2021    In total 25 boxes of food were collected at Hinchingbrooke hospital, 15 boxes of food were collected at Stamford and over 2,000 kilos of food were collected at Peterborough City Hospital. - Credit: Hinchingbrooke Hospital Staff from Hinchingbrooke,  Peterborough City, and Stamford and Rutland hospitals joined forces over the Christmas period to ensure local families did not go hungry. They provided more than 2,000 kilos of food for foodbanks.  As part of the North West Anglia Trust’s Christmas campaign, staff collected food items and basic necessities for individuals and families using foodbanks in Peterborough and Godmanchester, and Second Helpings in Stamford over the festive period.
