DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Salvation Army got its start in London in 1865 to address extreme poverty and now serves 139 countries around the world.
It is National Salvation Army Week and the Duluth branch is celebrating its beginning in 1892 focusing on food, nutrition, housing and other emergency services.
In 2020, the Salvation Army in Duluth provided over 73 thousand meals and over 11 hundred people received emergency assistance.
To meet its 2.8 million dollar annual budget, the Duluth Salvation Army gets funding through public and private grants but about 60 percent of its revenue come from individual donations.
