MASSILLON It s becoming that time of year for gathering and distributing thousands of toys throughout Stark County.
The area Marine Toys for Tots program is in full swing, as volunteers were sorting through hundreds of boxes filled with playful items Friday at a storage center in northwest Massillon. The annual effort will continue throughout Saturday.
Kari Harris, volunteer coordinator for Toys for Tots, has assumed the role from her grandfather, Bob Harris, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, who helped to spearhead the toy initiative for 25 straight years. He got to 1 million toys donated in his 25th year (in 2019). That was special, said Kari Harris, who s known to friends and volunteers as the little general.
