Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab spoke with Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr Jaishankar today (Thursday 6 May) via video call.
Both Ministers welcomed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the UK and India, and discussed how they could coordinate efforts to deliver deeper cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.
They noted the importance of working together to tackle global challenges such as climate change, coronavirus and countering shared threats including malign cyber activity.
The two Ministers reflected on key achievements, such as the Enhanced Trade Partnership announced earlier this week, which removes market barriers and will help create new British and Indian jobs, including in strategic areas like science and technology.

Home Secretary Priti Patel and Indian Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar signed the Migration and Mobility Partnership , which aims to make it easier for British and Indian nationals to live and work in each other s countries, whilst also enhancing cooperation on combatting immigration crime and fraud. It will also enhance UK-India cooperation to protect many Indian nationals who obey immigration rules, by stopping unfair manipulation of the system by a small minority who breach the terms of their visas or enter the UK illega
PM Modi and Boris Johnson also discussed the Covid-19 situation and ongoing cooperation in the fight against the pandemic, including the successful partnership on vaccines.

The MoU is aimed at Liberalising issuance of visas promoting mobility of students, researchers and skilled professionals and strengthen cooperation on issues related to irregular migration and human trafficking between the two sides.
The MoU would benefit Indian students, academics, and researchers, migrants for professional and economic reasons and those willing to contribute through various projects to the economic development of both countries without consideration of caste, creed, religion or gender. This MoU can support the innovation ecosystem in both countries by facilitating free flow of talent.
Ministry of External Affairs would closely monitor the effective implementation of the MoU through Joint Working Group mechanism.
