A 37-year-old COVID-19 patient ended his life by reportedly jumping off the third floor of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), where he was being treated, on Thursday. He took the extreme step allegedly out of fear and depression.
The deceased was identified as M. Venubabu, a resident of Gollalapalem in Bheemili mandal.
According to Arilova Inspector Emmanuel Raju, the victim was admitted to VIMS on June 1. He was being treated at the ICU on the third floor of the hospital.
Police said that around 10 days ago, a friend of Venubabu allegedly died due to COVID-19. Since then, he was in a state of panic. On Thursday morning, at around 7 a.m., he allegedly jumped out of a window and ended his life.

A woman said to be in her late twenties allegedly ended her life by drowning in the sea near Sagar Nagar area under Arilova police station limits, here on Wednesday.
Police are yet to establish the identity of the woman.
“On Wednesday morning, some locals who were at the beach noticed the woman walking towards the water. After realising that the woman was drowning, the locals who were at a distance ran towards her to save her, but unfortunately she was pulled away by strong waves. Her body was traced later,” Arilova Inspector Emmanuel Raju said.

After a photograph and video had gone viral depicting an alleged manhandling of a police officer by an activist of a political party under MVP Police Station limits on Friday, the city police clarified that both the photograph and the video were misconstrued and blown out of proportion.
Addressing the media, here on Saturday, the police inspector in the photograph Emmanuel Raju, SHO of Arilova Police Station, said that he was on bandobust duty near the house-cum-office of TDP MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, where activists of YSR Congress Party were staging a dharna on Friday.
