The Impala s popularity was on the rise, so the GM brand just wanted this anniversary model to be a car that instantly catches the attention.
And at some level, the ’62 Impala Golden Anniversary really became a head-turner, all thanks to the Anniversary Gold paint (though a similar finish has also been used on other models), yellow-gold vinyl bucket seats, as well as a series of other accessories that were supposed to set this version apart from the rest of the lineup.

Because no, 1966 wasn’t necessarily the best year for the Impala SS, as its sales dropped by more than 50 percent to less than 120,000 units. The reason? The increased competition from other performance-oriented models, including the Pontiac GTO and even the Chevelle SS 396.
But the Impala SS was a head-turner nonetheless, and 1966 witnessed the debut of a restyled grille and new rectangular taillights, as well as new front seats and an optional gauge package.

For example, the engine lineup of the 1964 Impala SS consisted of an inline-six unit, namely the 230 developing 140 horsepower, which came standard. The V8 lineup included a 283 option producing 195 horsepower, while those looking for more power could choose the 327 available in two versions, 250 and 300 horsepower, respectively.
The top choice was the Turbo-Fire 409 V8 with three different power outputs.
