Dear reader, if you thought I was the most prepared for another of Yoweri Museveni’s crowning – because I have consistently argued here that this so-called election would be simply another enthronement – you are wrong.
I was the least prepared. I felt vulnerable more than ever. The long-winding queues of new voters, men and women arguably in their teens and early twenties, were a sight to behold.

It is still my practice to offer rides to strangers whenever I find them walking the dusty/muddy roads that connect my often slummy neighbourhoods to the main road.
It is risky, I know. I am always convinced these are my neighbours – 40 houses away from mine – just that we do not know each other. As long as they give me signals to trust them, such as being fashion-consciously religious – Muslim cap or veiled, the white roman collar, vulnerable like our grannies – I stop and ask them to ride with me.
