Everything about daily life was turned on its head this past year. So I figured, why not change nearly everything about my diet, too?
I began taking a deeper look at my health last spring. After watching too many documentaries, and reading too many nutrition books and articles, I decided to make the switch to a whole-foods, plant-based diet.
Those words have been used in some pretty successful marketing campaigns in recent years, but their definition has gotten murky. I prefer to keep it simple and go by the definition Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a longtime advocate of the diet, has used: “Consume a variety of whole plant-based foods [and] avoid consumption of animal-based foods.”

There will be a “swift rebound” in retail footfall when non-essential stores re-open, a retail expert predicts.
The prediction comes as prime minister Boris Johnson set out his four-step plan to release England from lockdown, which sees schools reopen on 8 March, outdoor sports start from 29 March, non-essential shops, hairdressers and gyms reopen from 12 April, and all legal limits on social contact end from 21 June.
Evidence from retail analytics consultancy Ipsos Retail Performance shows that shoppers were slow to return to non-essential stores after the first lockdown was lifted in June 2020. In stores that re-opened in that first week footfall was only a third (32%) of levels the previous year.
Footfall in non-food stores across the UK in the final full week of trading before Christmas fell well short of the usual last-minute rush, despite shopper numbers reaching their highest levels since the week commencing 16 February, according to Ipsos Retail Performance’s latest Retail Traffic Index (RTI) tracking data.
