A 75-year-old woman who lived alone in village Kurkundi in the
Pimpri-Chinchwad area was recently stabbed to death. The body was found with clothes disheveled and partially stripped, with the saree lying a little distance away leading the
police to suspect
sexual assault.
The Chakan police reached the spot after receiving the information and have also detained a person in this connection. The body has been sent to the hospital for postmortem.

MUMBAI: A 26-year-old man was killed allegedly by two minor boys after an argument over an old dispute here on Tuesday, police said.

According to the official, the deceased, Mohsin Khan, was a labourer.
He was on way to answer nature s call early in the morning when the two teenagers stopped him and got into an argument with him over an old issue, the official said.

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh police have issued a notice to BJP national spokesman Sambit Patra with regard to a case registered against him for allegedly circulating a ‘fake toolkit’, but his lawyers have sought a week to join the investigation.
Police had asked Patra to be present at the Civil Lines police station or join the investigation through videoconferencing at 4pm on Sunday evening. However, his lawyers sent an email expressing his inability to join the probe and sought a week’s time.
Earlier, Raipur police had issued a notice to state BJP president and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, asking him to be present at his residence on Monday for recording his statement with regard to the same case.

In a case of revenge murder, a 35-year-old sex worker from
Dhankawadi was brutally murdered by a 27-year-old man early on Saturday. The woman, originating from West Bengal, consumed
alcohol on a regular basis. The accused, Avinash Salve, worked at a nearby bar, where she had significant prior debt. Two days back, as the woman went to buy liquor,
Salve refused to sell till the time she clears her dues.
A verbal fight broke out between the two, when the woman abused and slapped Salve. The accused, feeling humiliated after the incident, committed the gruesome act, and has been remanded in six-day police custody.

The exponential growth of the microfinance industry in Sri Lanka does not correspond with its contribution to reducing poverty. Instead, it has escalated indebtedness among women, pushed them below subsistence and made victims of both personal and structural violence. The Satyagraha which commenced on March 8 by the Collective of Women Affected by Microfinance in Hingurakgoda, Polonnaruwa, was the latest manifestation of the microfinance crisis. The female victims were exposing the failure of the government, the Central Bank, and the microfinance service providers to address fallouts in lending.
