The woman, originating from West Bengal, consumed alcohol on a regular basis. The accused, Avinash Salve, worked at a nearby bar, where she had significant prior debt. Two days back, as the woman went to buy liquor, Salve refused to sell till the time she clears her dues. A verbal fight broke out between the two, when the woman abused and slapped Salve. The accused, feeling humiliated after the incident, committed the gruesome act, and has been remanded in six-day police custody.

They have written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for reconsideration as this could create more threats for pedestrians who are vulnerable to accidents in such cases. The decision was taken by the PMC’s CIC recently on December 17 to make the left turn free as a part of the civic body’s aim to keep a check on congestion at traffic
