A serving youth corps member in Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has been arrested for allegedly murdering a man suspected to be her lover.
The suspect, Chidinma Oduma Pascaline, said the deceased, Akwaowo Japhet, took her to his house at Abak road Uyo, picked up a machete and attempted to kill her.
She added that she was able to dispossess him of the machete and used the same machete on him which led to his death.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon confirmed the incident and said the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter.

Akwa Ibom govt bans large gatherings as COVID-19 surges
The state government says the use of face mask and adherence to other COVID-19 guidelines and protocols remain compulsory in public buildings and places.

As a precautionary measure against the second wave of COVID-19, the Akwa Ibom State government has announced the cancellation of “all state government events requiring large crowds”.
The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem, who disclosed in a statement on Friday, said “test results from our PCR laboratory clearly indicate a sharp increase in the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our state”.
