AMARAVATI: Minutes after getting the green signal from the Supreme Court to continue the election process for gram panchayats, State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar swung into action on Monday.
SEC revised the schedule for the first phase of elections keeping in view of the fact that the district collectors have not made any arrangements to accept nominations from Monday. SEC said that the dates fixed for the polling (if necessary) for the II, III and IV phase will remain unaltered. However, the II phase will become phase-I and phase-III will become phase-II and phase-IV will be treated as phase-III and phase-I had been rescheduled as phase-IV.

TIRUPATI: Kadapa police arrested two red sanders smugglers and seized Rs.10 lakh worth red sanders logs on Monday.
According to Kadapa district additional SP M Deva Prasad (Operations), two smugglers identified as Jangala Siva Sankar (40), a native of Gandlapalli village in Vontimitta mandal who is now residing at Tirupati and his accomplice Vasu were arrested by the police at Arundhatiwada road near Chintharajupalli on Sunday.

Additional SP M Deva Prasad appreciated the efforts of the Rajampet and Vontimitta police in arresting the two smugglers and recovering the logs meant to be smuggled away.
