KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Health Ministry has proposed that interstate travel be postponed for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, as daily COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
Speaking after a ministry event on Thursday (Apr 15), Health Minister Adham Baba said the proposal to put off approval for interstate travel was due to two reasons.

“One, there are new variants of COVID-19 in the community. Two, the vaccination programme is still ongoing, so we need to control the situation,” he said.
He is now being probed for the offence as well as several prior traffic and drug offences.
Seremban OCPD ACP Mohd Said Ibrahim said policemen on patrol ordered the suspect to stop near Taman Bukit Chedang around 4pm on Tuesday (April 13) but he sped off instead. The patrol unit sought assistance and three other units joined in the pursuit. In his haste to escape, the suspect ran through a red traffic light, made an illegal U-turn and grazed the side mirror of another car, he said in a statement.
ACP Mohd Said said the suspect lost control of his car and crashed along Jalan Persiaran Utama in Seremban 2.
KUALA LUMPUR: There are no new directives on the requirements for interstate travel permits despite a notice on a police station door demanding strict proof due to recent instafamous incidents.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said the notice – a photo of which has gone viral on social media – did not reflect any new directive on the permission needed for interstate travel. The requirements for such permits remain the same. Those who wish to travel interstate must have valid reasons and furnish proof as per the Covid-19 standard operating procedures, he said when contacted on Tuesday (April 6). I have always reminded my men to check the validity of the interstate travel request.

BETONG, April 3 Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah today said that the state government is waiting for National Security Council’s (NSC) decision on whether interstate travel will be allowed for individuals who have completed their Covid-19 vaccine.
He said NSC will be having a meeting soon to decide on the inter-state travel or to abroad for vaccinated Malaysians.
We are still looking at Covid-19 data from other states, he said.
The state Local Government and Housing Minister said this in response to the growing call from tourism industry players for the state to allow the lifting of interstate travel ban.
Masidi said he did not want to commit to any timeframe towards lifting the interstate travel ban as tourism players continue to plead with the government to consider lifting the restrictions by putting in place strict standard operating procedures (SOP).
Currently, only Sabahans can enter the state while non-Sabahans can only enter for work matters or family emergencies, and police permits are required.
