Western Piedmont Symphony to hold ‘Comeback Concert’ The Western Piedmont Symphony will return to symphonic music with a Comeback Concert on Saturday, May 15, live at J.E. Broyhill Civic Center and via livestream at 7:30 p.m. This concert will feature Mozart’s Overture to “Così fan tutte,” Haydn’s Symphony No. 82, “The Bear,” and Joseph Bologne’s Violin Concerto in C Major, featuring violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins. Winner of a Naumburg International Violin Competition Honorarium Prize and featured in the Smithsonian Museum for African-American History, Hall-Tompkins is a violin soloist entrepreneur who has been acclaimed by the New York Times as “the versatile violinist who makes the music come alive,” for her tonal mastery.

Theatre production, chalk contest and more

Production begins this weekend at Green Room The Green Room Theatre’s Southern comedy “Always a Bridesmaid” promises to offer plenty of laughs, but actresses caution attendees not to expect valid wedding planning advice! This Jones Hope Wooten play revolves around four friends who promised the night of their high school prom that they would be bridesmaids in one another’s weddings. Thirty years later, the weddings are still happening, but not without setbacks such as fistfights, cold feet and bad timing as the doves are released. “Always a Bridesmaid” will be onstage May 7-16. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays (May 7, 8, 13, 14, 15) and 3 p.m. on Sundays (May 9 and 16). The show is produced by Interstate Foam and is directed by Jeanne Laws.

Symphony announces upcoming concerts HICKORY — The Western Piedmont Symphony announces two “Concerts for the Community” to unite through music Saturday, March 6, and Saturday, April 24, at the Drendel Auditorium on the SALT Block and via livestream at 7:30 p.m. Each concert will highlight incredible music, covering a wide range of styles that also create many important partnerships related to the music. Thirteen cultural organizations feature as part of these collaborations in pre-recorded videos prior to each piece of music. Partner organizations for these performances include the Hickory Choral Society, Greater Hickory Ministerial Alliance, Hickory Area Ministers, Green Room Community Theatre, Catawba Valley Camera Club, Hickory Museum of Art, Women’s Resource Center, Catawba Science Center, Hickory Public Library, Footcandle Film Society, Greater Hickory International Council and Hickory Ballet & Performing Arts.
