Ineos Automotive speaks out on Grenadier’s French factory
Ineos has commented about its decision to move the Grenadier’s factory from Wales to Europe, at the cost of around UK 500 jobs

Ineos Automotive recently announced that it would move the Grenadier’s production facility from Wales to France. At the time, the move was branded a “no brainer” by the brand’s commercial director, Mark Tennat, despite the fact that it scuppered 500 jobs for the UK’s post-Brexit motor industry.
Ineos originally planned to assemble the Grenadier in Wales, near Ford’s soon-to-be closed Bridgend plant. The move would have seen Ineos follow in the footsteps of Aston Martin, who recently opened a new facility in St Athan, designed to handle production of the DBX.
Customers included Lamborghini, Maserati, Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Ineos Automotive.
The supplier said it had continuously grown its OE business in recent years thanks to innovation, agility and expertise.
Proprietary virtual tyre modelling technology reducing the number of physical prototype tyres and overall volume of raw materials used in testing, the revolutionary lightweight Enliten technology appeared on Volkswagen s ID.3 EV and around 30% of OE fitments throughout the year were designed exclusively for electric vehicles.
Enliten enables tyres with a rolling resistance up to 30% lower than a premium summer tyre – lowering fuel consumption or extending battery life – and also reduces weight by up to 20%. This requires up to 2kg less raw material.
