Nomis sentencing delayed

Green River Star - February 10, 2021 A Monday hearing to sentence Stephanie Nomis for her part in the embezzlement of Green River Fire Department Foundation funds was continued after Nomis said she did not recall receiving a copy of her pre-sentence investigation. A new hearing date was not set as of press time. The hearing took place before District Court Judge Suzannah Robinson Monday morning and progressed until the judge asked if Nomis received a copy of her pre-sentence investigation. She said she didn’t remember receiving it. According to her attorney, Gary Arnell, records showed the report was sent to the Nomis household on Keith Street, but Nomis said she didn’t recall seeing it, resulting in the hearing being continued. Under Wyoming statutes a person has the right to receive and review a copy of the pre-sentence investigation report at least 10 days before their sentencing hearing.

Yearlong Investigation Ends in Prosecution of 23 Sweetwater County Residents

SWEETWATER COUNTY As a result of this nearly yearlong investigation, and the following court proceedings, the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office, with the assistance from local law enforcement, successfully disrupted, dismantled and prosecuted 23 Sweetwater County local, drug users and distributers, residing in Green River and Rock Springs, Wyoming. In addition, four out-of-state suppliers of heroin and methamphetamine, were identified, charged and prosecuted for their roles in supplying large quantities of controlled substances into the Sweetwater County area. Furthermore, the identification and disruption of this Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO), not only impacted the communities resting in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, it positively impacted areas in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Phoenix, Arizona.

Registered Sex Offender Compliance Checks Completed in Sweetwater County

SWEETWATER COUNTY For the 11th consecutive year, deputies and detectives from Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service Sex Offender Enforcement Task Force, recently participated in a concentrated sweep of registered sex offender compliance checks throughout Sweetwater County as part of an ongoing effort in a special campaign known as “Operation Jessica.” During the last four months, from September through the end of December, small teams of county deputies and detectives conducted 208 registered sex offender compliance checks across Sweetwater County including in many outlying communities such as Granger, Point of Rocks, Wamsutter, and Bairoil.

Mark Burns pleaded guilty to seven felony charges in Third District Court this afternoon including four counts of first-degree felony sexual assault, one count of kidnapping, and one count of aggravated assault and battery for a crime he committed on June 10, 1991.
