The House of Representatives’ Committee on Public Accounts has asked the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Services, Muhammad Nami, to tender his resignation if he is not capable of discharging his responsibilities in the office.
The committee, which condemned Nami for failing to answer its invitation to an investigative hearing on Wednesday, summoned the FIRS boss to appear before it unfailingly on Thursday.
The lawmakers are probing ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government over alleged revenue leakages as reported by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation.
The FIRS boss was billed to appear before the committee over non-payment of taxes to the government by three foreign firms, Indorama Petrochemical, Indorama fertiliser and Petrochemical Limited and OIS Indorama Port Limited, but he sent a representation.
The Committee also gave the FIRS boss 18 hours to appear before it or be sanctioned.

The House of Representatives Public Account Committee (PAC) has asked the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Alhaji Muhammad Manman Nami to tender his resignation from the office if not capable of discharging his official duties.
The Committee also gave the FIRS boss 18 hours to appear before it or be sanctioned.

The Chairman of the Committee, Oluwole Oke stated this on Wednesday in Abuja while reacting to the failure of the FIRS boss to honour the invitation of the committee which is currently probing the dwindling revenues of the Federal Government.

The committee is investigating dwindling revenue of the federal government as reported by office of the auditor-general of the federation.
Nami was invited to explain the circumstances surrounding the non-payment of taxes by Indorama Petrochemical, Indorama Fertilizer and Petrochemical Ltd all foreign firms and OIS Indorama, Eleme, Port Harcourt.
He, however, failed to appear on Wednesday, and sent a representative instead.

Oluwole Oke, chairman of the committee, ruled that Nami must appear before the lawmakers on Thursday, otherwise the panel will invoke its constitutional power.
There has been concern over poor payment of taxes to the federal government causing it to lose huge revenue monthly.
