KHAMMAM: Bharatiya Kisan Morcha state president Kondapalli Sridhar Reddy said on Monday that farmers are suffering due to the non-lifting of paddy at Indira Kranthi Patham centres.
Sridhar Reddy, who visited the paddy fields at Patharpadu in Tirumalayapalem mandal, said the government failed to put a plan in place to lift the paddy. The paddy was placed on thrashing floors and the farmers were worried over approaching rain. Paddy stocks for sale in some mandals were hit by unseasonal rain, he said.

143 centres to come up in Sangareddy district Though initially the government has announced that it would not procure paddy, it has changed its stand and decided to procure paddy in the present season. The decision was taken to avoid inconvenience to the farming community.
With paddy harvesting season to commence in the next few weeks, the district administration is making all efforts for paddy procurement.
As per the instructions by the government, paddy procurement centres (PPC) will be functioning from April 15 across the State and Finance Minister T. Harish Rao has been monitoring the establishment of these centres. Paddy was produced on about 81,500 acres in the district.

Cultivation area increasing thanks to KLIP
Thanks to Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), Godavari water that was lifted for about 500 metres has made Siddipet district a green carpet with paddy production touching its peak.
Paddy cultivation area has been increasing in the district for the last three seasons with 64,079 hectares in 2019-20 rabi, followed by 87,927 hectares in 2020-21 kharif and 1.01 lakh hectares in 20212 rabi. The worth of paddy produced in the current season was put at ₹1,600 crore and this achievement was being attributed to irrigation from Godavari water.
