Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, May 15 : Half of 10-member women s team is doubtful to compete at the Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai starting May 21 after strict Covid-19 protocols at Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune didn t let them join the ongoing national camp. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had planned collective training for the 10-member squad at ASI ahead of the tournament. However, ASI has allowed boxers to join only in batches. While five, including MC Mary Kom, had joined till Friday, the remaining five had been allowed to move into ASI only next week.

Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, April 28 : The 2021 Asian Boxing Championship, originally scheduled to be held in New Delhi in May, has been shifted to Dubai, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said in a statement on Wednesday. The decision was made due to travel restrictions that several participating nations have announced to India due to the sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in the country. In the wake of international travel restrictions to India, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), in consultation with Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC), has decided to conduct the upcoming 2021 edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships in Dubai. The event will now be organised by BFI in association with UAE Boxing Federation, said the BFI.

Punjab s Simranjit, 25, had qualified in the women s 60 kg category in March last year. She is in isolation for the past four days here at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Sports Complex, the coach told IANS. This month, several elite women boxers and members of the coaching staff attending national camp at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex had tested positive for coronavirus. Almost all of them have recovered, said the coach.
