LUDHIANA: A mob raised a ruckus after a speeding truck killed a 25-year-old man at Rahon Road, near Amarjeet Colony, on Monday.
Kimti Lal, a resident of Mangat village, had left his house on a bike for a salon in Indra Nagar for a training in hairdressing. When he reached near Amarjeet Colony, a speeding truck hit his bike around 8am. The truck driver dragged Kimti for a few metres. After people raised the alarm, he jammed on the brakes and escaped, leaving the vehicle behind.
Passersby called up the police and informed Kimti’s family.
His family sat near the body and staged a protest by blocking the road. They did not allow cops to take the body to civil hospital and demanded that the truck driver and the owner be brought to the spot.

The animal was spotted several times around Milithane, Kerkambai and Indra Nagar villages in the past month.
Based on complaints from villagers, forest officials set up a cage two weeks ago at Milithan to capture the animal. Finally, the sloth bear was caught inside the cage in the early hours on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the bear damaged the cage in a bid to escape. The officials brought another cage and shifted the animal in it. “The sloth bear will be released into the Korakundha forest near Upperbhavani soon,” said Saravanakumar, assistant conservator of forests. tnn
