Share New Delhi: Amrita University’s International Symposium on Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning (ML) for Ecosystem Restoration & Multi-hazard Resilience (ISIM 2021), a virtual event held between June 5-9, 2021, attracted the participation of 70 keynote speakers and more than 2000 researchers, academicians, executives, and government officials from 36 countries. The symposium underscored the need for adopting emerging information technologies such as IoT and ML, and embracing interdisciplinary and participatory approach while addressing ecosystem and climate change challenges.   The panel discussions were held on various themes including: Emerging Technologies for Ecosystem Restoration, Impact of Climate Change on Ecosystem & Multi Hazards, IoT and ML for Managing Ecosystem & Multi Hazards, Climate Change Adaptation Techniques & Community Resilience, and Case Studies for Ecosystems Restoration & Multi-Hazard Resilience.

Geocycle India to help reduce plastic waste leakage 19 May 2021 Geocycle India, the in-house waste management arm of LafargeHolcim’s Ambuja Cements and ACC, will implement its Bubble Barrier technology at the Mantola Canal in Uttar Pradesh, to tackle plastic waste leakage. The Geocycle Bubble Barrier is an innovative concept based on existing technology which makes smart use of a combination of natural currents and a bubble curtain to channel plastic waste towards the banks of rivers and canals instead of it flowing directly into the Yamuna river, from where it is collected for safe treatment, said Atul Bagai, head of India’s Country Office, UN Environment Programme.

Share New Delhi: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indiahave signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development, conduct and promotion of health research in India. Gates Foundation and CSIRwill worktogether to identify opportunities to initiate scientific and technological collaborations. These will focus on developing and testing new preventions, therapies and interventions that can help to solve major health concerns that affect India and other developing countries. As per the MoU, areas of research collaboration would include genetic diseases that impact infant and neonatal mortality; new diagnostics and devices for infectious disease and environmental surveillance; development of cost-effective processes for drug, vaccines, biologics, and diagnostics manufacturing; novel microbiome-directed foods; socio-economic impact of science and technological tools; and other areas of health and development.
