China defended construction of a village which according to reports based on satellite images put out by US-based imaging firm Planet Labs is allegedly in
Arunachal Pradesh, calling it a matter of sovereignty and insisting that it never recognised the “illegally established” Indian state.
The Chinese foreign ministry described it as normal construction activities on China’s “own territory”. The
Indian government had reacted to the reports saying that China has been carrying out construction along the border and that
India has also stepped up building infrastructure such as roads and bridges. India on Monday said it kept a constant watch on all developments having a bearing on the country s security, and took necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
