New St Lawrence County trail challenge invites hikers of all abilities to earn Great 8 badge

Wednesday, May 12, 2021 - 9:19 am CANTON As spring pops in the North Country, a new trail challenge invites people of all interests and abilities to explore St. Lawrence County, while earning their “Great 8 badge.” New York’s newest trail challenge is designed to attract avid outdoors people, young families, those new to the outdoors or those with limited ability. “Elevation is not a part of this challenge. As you experience the 8 trails in each challenge, you quickly realize that this part of New York is incredibly beautiful without the need for technical gear or extreme effort” said Brooke Rouse, Director of Tourism for the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. “The trails are diverse and an interactive trail site allows you to read about the experience before you get there, track yourself while walking and earn badges and the Great 8 Trail Challenge patch all online.”

Indian Creek Nature Center Taking Used Christmas Trees

Indian Creek Nature Center Taking Used Christmas Trees Still haven t figured out what to do with your Christmas tree? Donate it to Indian Creek Nature Center. They are taking donated trees to use as mulch, according to KWWL. I know a lot of my neighbors are still keeping their decorations up, and when it comes time to take them down, Director of Land Stewardship Jean Wiedneheft says the tree remnants can be beneficial in helping Indian Creek Nature Center rebuild its trail system, much of which was damaged due to the derecho. That s a process that will be ongoing within the next two years. A free public meeting to learn about these plans can be attended virtually or in-person at Indian Creek Nature Center on January 19.
