Despite the ongoing pandemic, the 2021 trout fishing season got off to a relatively normal start on Saturday.
Temperatures at the 8 a.m. opener were a bit chilly, just a few degrees below freezing. Skies were clear and sun filled. Streams were full, but not overflowing their banks.
Angler crowds were out in force, but started thinning within a couple hours, right on schedule.
After the initial bite, the trout seemed a bit sluggish in many spots but still came steadily to the hook.
All in all, a normal opening day to trout season. And, yet it was the second opener to a trout season during the pandemic. That was decidedly not normal.
