School Board to seek community input for policing in schools

County Mayor Glenn Jacobs will have a figurative seat at table when the Knox County School Board meets Wednesday to figure out how to bring the community into discussions about policing in schools.
Jacobs surprised the board last week with a letter to chair Susan Horn saying he is strongly against hiring a facilitator to organize the conversations.
After weeks of intense discussions, board members had determined the best way forward was to hire a facilitator who would create a process to hear what community stakeholders have to say. A facilitator could navigate challenges as varied as when and where to hold sessions to how to bring together sharply divided stakeholders.

Governor Bill Lee announced a yearlong celebration to mark the anniversary of Tennessee becoming a state called “Untold Tennessee.” There will be events and activities scheduled in all 95 counties throughout the year.
“Since 1796, Tennessee has been the portrait of perseverance, character and hope because of everyday heroes,” said Gov. Lee. “As we reflect on 225 years of statehood, I encourage Tennesseans to join us on the road and share their untold stories of people, places and events that have shaped our state since its beginning.”
