From the Old Pine Rocker: Golden moments with Olga

From the Old Pine Rocker: Golden moments with Olga Sherry Maves Special to The Journal-Standard For more than half a century, Olga Gize Carlile was known as the face of the Freeport Journal Standard, and hundreds of social media tributes since her recent passing bear witness to the countless ways she touched our community. A widely acclaimed journalist, she also published popular cookbooks and was involved in numerous civic endeavors and organizations. However, to many of us who worked with her at the Journal Standard, she was a mentor and a friend. In the 1970s when I first started writing for the paper, it was Olga who invited me to go along with her on an interview. Later, she was my cheerleader when I started my music column. Her enthusiasm and encouragement was such an inspiration to me then and in more recent times when I co-authored a book.

Helen G Baltrukonis

January 9, 2021 Helen G. Baltrukonis CHESHIRE – Helen G. Baltrukonis, whose early years on the family farm instilled a dedication to hard work and provided a lifetime of material for stories, died Dec. 23, 2020. She was 102. The cause was COVID-19. Mrs. Baltrukonis was born in Waterbury in 1918 on the last day of September, a phrase she enjoyed using to test listeners’ memories of the number of days in the month. She lived nearly all of her life-well into her 90s-in the house on Marion Road in Cheshire that had been part of the family dairy and produce farm. Her parents, Joseph and Anna (Motiekonis) Griskauskas, bought the property after emigrating from Lithuania and first settling in Waterbury. The farm continued at the west Cheshire location, roughly the area around what is now Barn Hill Road, until the 1960s.

New Balance Japan x Save Khaki United Collaboration

In this Article New Balance‘s Japanese branch has recently been cooking up a variety of exclusives for its domestic fanbase, ranging from pricey collectible kicks to remixed runners, but its latest effort strays from the on-foot angle in favor of some clean, versatile apparel. Crafted in America by ethical label Save Khaki United, the capsule is a collection of military-inspired layering pieces ideal for next summer. S.K.U. is well-known for its American-made staples, mostly executed in trim cuts and neutral tones. In Japan, its distribution is overseen by Baycrews, the company that heads up the likes of Journal Standard, Edifice and WISM, thus making the New Balance Japan connection a little more logical.
