Aviation Executive Chris Krajewski Joins Parallel Flight Technologies Advisory Board

Former Tesla Director of Engineering and Former LAM Research Technical Director Join Parallel Flight Technologies Advisory Board - sUAS News

13 April 2021 Parallel Flight Technologies (PFT), a leader in heavy-lift drone technology, has expanded its advisory board with the addition of two esteemed engineering leaders. Dorian West, former Director of Engineering at Tesla, and Al Schoepp, retired Senior Technical Director from LAM Research, have signed on as technical advisors for the La Selva Beach-based drone startup. Both West and Schoepp come from lead engineering roles at large tech companies and have vast experience in securing supply chains and building out manufacturing processes. These skillsets make their insights incredibly valuable for Parallel Flight Technologies, which is preparing for production of its first commercial-intent aircraft. The company’s advanced parallel hybrid drone technology allows its unmanned aircraft to carry a payload of 100 pounds for over two hours, a 10 times improvement over existing solutions.

A Drone on Mars: That s One Small Flight for a Drone, One Giant Leap for Drone Kind

Image Courtesy of NASA JPL On February 18th the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) landed its Perseverance rover on the surface of the red planet, and, hanging from the belly of the car-sized craft is a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) known as Ingenuity. Back in 2019 at the SPAR3D event in Anaheim, MiMi Aung, Deputy Division Manager of Autonomous Systems at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, gave a keynote on the challenges of designing a helicopter that would fly on Mars. Today, we are just weeks away from our first unmanned flight on another planet. Ingenuity was developed at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JPL) in Pasadena, California, and it’s an engineering marvel. Even though NASA does not label the unmanned craft as a drone or UAV, it fits the bill: it flies independently of human interaction, is electrically powered, and uses blades to generate lift.
