Investigators from the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit raise are working to raise awareness of how parents and children can do more to protect themselves from potential dangers on the Internet.
The warnings come in conjunction with Safer Internet Day, which takes place on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Safer Internet Day is a global rally that aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues as people of all ages surround themselves with a myriad of digital devices.
During this pandemic, there has been a dramatic increase in our nation’s youth online activities. The Computer Crimes Unit is seeing a rise in self-generated sexually explicit material by children. This material is also known as sexting, nudes or child sexual abuse material (child pornography).

The focus on right to privacy in public discourse has prompted 81 per cent of Indian Internet users to stop using or considering not using certain apps due to privacy or data-sharing concerns, a new report said on Monday. The report reveals that owing to the pandemic, Internet usage across Indian households has spiked by 50 per cent and has also fostered awareness about cyber frauds across 61 per cent of the households. The pandemic has accelerated the penetration of Internet-based services and has consequently had a profound impact on the level of comfort people have with the use of the Internet, Lavanya Chandan, Director, OLX India, said in a statement.

+ February 08, 2021 TO CONTINUE combating online child exploitation, telecommunication company PLDT and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. (Smart), have strengthened their capabilities to block materials and domains linked to online child abuse.
With children spending more time on the web due to online learning, the PLDT Group, through its Cyber Security Operations Group, shut down 3,020 domains linked to online child abuse.
