€300,000 prize fund for budding start-ups

Updated / Tuesday, 4 May 2021 12:12 Intertrade Ireland s Shane O Hanlon and Connor Sweeney InterTradeIreland s Seedcorn Investor Readiness competition, the largest business competition of its kind, is offering start-up and early stage companies a record total cash prize fund of €300,000. A new Low Carbon Award is also up for grabs this year, with a €20,000 prize for the best investment proposal from a firm operating in the low carbon or green sector. Early stage and start-up companies can enter the regional heat in their area - Dublin (city and county), Munster and Connacht and Leinster (including counties Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan) and Northern Ireland. Previous Seedcorn winners hail from across the island of Ireland and represent a wide variety of sectors.

Trail Smoke Eaters are going to have inaugural BCHL season after all SHARE ON: Smokies logo (supplied by the Trail Smoke Eaters) The Trail Smoke Eaters will join the BCHL’s 17 other teams in a shortened five-week regular season, officially making their debut in the league in a few weeks. Although the Smoke Eaters played nine exhibition games against the Cranbrook Bucks and Merritt Centennials before the regular season was slated to begin in November, early April will mark the team’s official entry into the BCHL. On Friday, the BCHL announced that they had been given approval by the Provincial Health Office to hold a condensed season in five regional hub cities, with three to four teams in each hub. Further details including a full schedule and announcement of hub city locations will be announced over the coming days by the BCHL.

The capstone design class in the Course 20 major, class 20.380 (Biological Engineering Design) has a different theme every semester, and in September there was little doubt about this fall’s topic Addressing the Pandemic with BE. “We weren t sure how students would respond. Would they be exhausted by Covid? Instead, students leapt at the chance to apply their skills to such an immediate problem,” says Professor Angela Koehler, a member of the teaching team.
